Brushes with Autumn

This workshop is going to be all about helping you to bring more expressive paintings to a finish without losing the freshness.

We'll be painting beautiful Autumnal subjects, landscape and still life

The workshop will be split into two parts.

Part one - Expressive Painting

To help you learn and experiment with some more expressive approaches, I'll be taking you through some small paint magic experiments.

These will be small studies you can do quickly, without the pressure of making a finished piece.

Both still life and landscape subjects will be included.

Part Two - Finishing a painting with Flair

How do you keep from tightening up and just more closely copying the reference as you work through a painting?

How can you work in multiple layers without losing the freshness and life?

How can you keep from overloading the painting with detail?

I'll be taking you step by step through an approach that will show you how to start expressively, and keep the life right through to te finish, adding just enough focus to make the painting sing without smothering it with detail.

We'll work on two paintings that will be brought to a finish in two to three sessions - possibly more if the paintings need it.
